“Syrian and Afghan refugees are Turkey’s number one national problem.“!

Opposition leaders in Turkey are increasingly using the refugee issue, vowing to prevent the "takingover" of Turkish neighborhoods by Syrians, and vowing to return refugees to their countries of origin.

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, head of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Turkey’s largest opposition party, said that if his party was elected, Turkey “would say goodbye to its Syrian guests and send them home within two years.”
Similarly, CHP Deputy Chairman Engin Ozkok stated that “Syrian and Afghan refugees are Turkey’s number one national problem.” The party also placed huge banners on its buildings that read, “The borders are our honor,” in reference to their demands to secure the Turkish borders to prevent the entry of more refugees.
Metin Corabatir, head of the Asylum and Migration Research Center in Ankara, warned that anti-refugee rhetoric spread by politicians could turn into physical attacks on the streets.
“The situation has become frightening, as far-right parties are taking advantage of the refugee issue. We are fighting hate speech and trying to mitigate it with intense media campaigns. We are also trying to contain the situation in a more neutral way. But all these events are accelerating and out of control,” Corabatir explained.

In a new campaign to incite refugees, the Republican People’s Party prepared a special report on the Syrians in Istanbul entitled “Syrian Refugees in Istanbul, Return Trends and Expectations,” where the MP (Gamze Akush Al-Ghizdi) claimed that she met with the Syrian refugees face to face and concluded several conclusions that she outlined in a report She gave it to her party.
