Umit Ozdag Threatens to Throw the Refugees With Catapults
The head of the opposition “Zafar” party, Umit Ozdag, published on his Twitter page an animated video against refugees in Turkey, pledging to expel them from Turkey if the opposition wins the upcoming presidential elections in Turkey. Umit Ozdag appeared in the film with a catapult behind him, saying that he would throw the migrants and send them back to their countries like catapult balls.
Reactions to this threat varied between supporters and opponents, with many followers commenting on this film on Twitter that they support Umit Ozdag’s policy of deporting refugees. While a number of activists and followers received this threat with great shock. Yeni Şafak newspaper, affiliated with the Turkish government, commented that the head of the “Al-Zafar” party was again angering the refugees and threatening to throw them with catapults.
Commenting on the film, Umit Ozdag wrote on Good Morning Turkey; Thank you for trusting us, your trust is well-placed. He added that the “Zafer” party is the only party that has the will and plans to return 10 million refugees. He added with the Zafer party we make our cities safer, to avoid civil war and not to spend another 100 billion dollars.
It is reported that the opposition Zafar Party was created on a racist basis, and its leader, Umit Ozdag, is Turkey’s most xenophobic political figure, known for inciting refugees. He has admitted financing a short film, The Silent Takeover, against refugees residing in Turkey.
