More than 46 Dead Bodies Found in a Truck in Texas, USA
US authorities have found the bodies of at least 46 people believed to be immigrants in the container of a truck parked in San Antonio, Texas.
Charles Hood, the city’s fire chief, said, in a statement carried by the American Al Hurra channel, that the bodies of at least 46 people were found, while 16 people, including four children, were taken to hospital.
In turn, Mr. William McManus, San Antonio Police Chief, confirmed that three people were arrested, in connection with the incident. And the American network, NBC, quoted officials as saying that a person told the police that he heard screams from inside the truck for people asking for help, while Fox News reported that the truck was believed to be used in an operation to smuggle migrants.
Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said on Twitter that he regretted the “tragedy”.He pointed out that the Mexican consul in San Antonio visited the site and learned that two of the four children in the hospital were of Guatemalan nationality. He estimated that the tragedy was “probably perpetrated by human traffickers”.
The Republican Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, was quick to blame for what happened to Democratic President Joe Biden and said, “These deaths are (responsibility) for Biden. They are the result of his deadly policy of opening the borders.”
The arrival of illegal immigrants increased sharply after the election of Joe Biden, although since his arrival in the White House he has been trying to stem the flow of immigrants by entrusting his deputy, Kamala Harris, with this complex file.
In July 2017, a similar tragedy occurred in which ten immigrants died in a sweltering trailer in the parking lot of the Tsuv Center near San Antonio. At the time, the Immigration Department indicated that the temperature in the trailer, where dozens of migrants were piled up, was about 65 degrees. In April 2018, the truck driver, who claimed he had not noticed he was transporting about 100 people in the trailer, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
