Turkish Deputy Denounces Wave of Racism against Arab Tourists

Turkish Member of Parliament Bahar Ayvazoğlu denounced Post’s campaign on social media and video clips against Arab tourists in Turkey, especially the city of Trabzon located on the Black Sea, which it represents.

The deputy said in a video clip, which she published on her own account on “Twitter” and circulated by social networking leaders, that tourists from Arab countries, to Trabzon and the entire Black Sea regions, have a huge economic contribution, and the targeting of Arab tourists and our guests in the city is suspicious. Speaking in a public square filled with tourists behind her, she added: “Who are these instigators? Frankly, I don’t consider them just a bunch of racists, to me, these individuals look more like those who perpetrate an agent to disrupt our national economy, and they seem to me more like tourism agents in competing countries that compete With us to get a bigger share of the tourism market.”

“Is there an ethnicity or nationalism in tourism? Does the tourist have a race or a sect? Sir, there were Arab signs on the workplaces.. OK? Why don’t you be bothered by the signs in English or German in Bodrum to serve the tourists there,” Ayvazoğlu said.

The deputy threatened to resort to the judiciary, to confront “all manifestations of racism,” noting that all attempts “to target tourists and the national economy will not pass like this, and this is an insult and betrayal of our country.”
