Syrian Refugees And The Turkish Citizenship
Turkish Interior Minister, Suleyman Soylu, announced the granting of Turkish citizenship to 211,000 Syrians, with 120,000 of them able to vote in the elections.
On the other hand, Soylu said, they are preparing to “return a million Syrians to their country safely,” in a move that according to human rights organizations and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria is considered a “demographic change” in northern Syria by settling Syrian refugees in places that are not their original areas.
The Turkish minister praised the humanitarian duty and good-neighborliness that his country carried out towards the Syrian people, stressing that they must now return to their country.
There are 3 million and 650 Syrian refugees in Turkey, where 1.4 million of them have obtained residency, while so far 517,000 Syrians have been voluntarily returned to their country.
Meanwhile, the head of the opposition “Zefar” party, Umit Ozdag, revealed that the number of Syrians who obtained Turkish citizenship exceeded 900,000 refugees. Ozdag threatened to withdraw Turkish citizenship from them and expel them from Turkey if he came to power.
