Because of poverty, a young Syrian man offers to sell his kidney in front of the UNHCR in Lebanon
Activists circulated a picture of a Syrian youth offering to sell his kidney in front of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
Media sources said that a Syrian refugee offered his kidney or cornea for sale in front of the UNHCR building in Beirut.
The sources indicated that the young man offered to sell his kidney after he was unable to secure the $10,000 he needed to undergo surgery.
The sources pointed out that the United Nations refuses to cover his medical expenses, noting that all the institutions he resorted to refused to provide him with assistance.
Syrian refugees in Lebanon suffer from extreme poverty due to the deteriorating economic conditions in the country and the rise in feelings and crimes of racism against them.
