The Turkish Immigration Presidency decided to form a committee consisting of 11 people to represent the Syrian refugees residing in Turkey, convey their problems and follow up on their cases.
This came during a meeting held on Wednesday in a hotel in Istanbul, which was attended by large segments of Syrians and their representatives from 11 other states, numbering more than 250 people.
After several speeches were delivered by representatives of the General Presidency of Migration on integration, asylum and voluntary return, it was decided to distribute the attendees into four different groups: civil society organizations, students and academics, businessmen, and media professionals.
Each group met separately to discuss the situation of the Syrians in general, then two representatives were elected from each group, bringing the total to eight representatives to whom the Presidency of Immigration will add three others, bringing the total to eleven representatives whose task is to transfer the problems of the Syrians to the Presidency of Turkish Immigration and represent them to it.
On the Turkish side, the meeting was attended by the Director of the Communication Department at the Presidency of Turkish Immigration, Gökça Awak, where he introduced the (SUYE) program for coexistence and social integration, and stressed the need for effective communication between the Syrians in Turkey and the Turkish people.
The Turkish side also called on the Syrians in Turkey to communicate with the Immigration Department in case they have a problem with their stay in Turkey, or to file complaints.
Oak stressed the need to learn the Turkish language, as it is the key to integration for Syrians in Turkey.
As well as the presence of women and children in the social and cultural events that are held by the official and unofficial bodies in Turkey.
The meeting, which lasted for hours, discussed the customs and values of the Turks and their national symbols, calling on Syrians and Arabs to respect the values of the Turkish people.
Turkish officials also drew attention to the issue of respect for neighbors and public and private facilities, explaining that this is the norm of Arab and Islamic peoples.
The meeting comes amid an increase in the campaign of hatred against the refugees, which is being led by racists and heads of opposition parties, headed by Umit Ozdag, leader of the Zefer Party, and Tangu Ozcan, mayor of Bolu, with the aim of returning the Syrians to their country despite the risks that such a step could cause.
About 3,750,000 Syrian refugees live in Turkey, according to official statistics, but they have remained vulnerable to political tensions and the hate speech waged by the Turkish opposition against the Syrians recently.
