A Lawsuit for Incitement and Racism against Opposition Politicians and their Parties
The head of the Turkish opposition “Zefar Party”, “Umit Ozdag”, is facing a lawsuit filed by the “Turkish Lawyers Association” headed by lawyer Omar Faruk Ceylan.
The lawyers demanded the immediate closure of the Ozdag party because of its racist statements and its continuous incitement against Syrian refugees in Turkey.
In turn, the Turkish newspaper “haber.sol” confirmed that the group had attached to its lawsuit many evidences condemning “Ozdag” for publishing misleading and racist information regarding refugees in Turkey.
The newspaper also indicated that “the gathering was based on many of the official articles mentioned in Turkish law regarding inciting people to racism and hatred.”
The “Sığınmacılar Hakları” grouping, which includes several Syrian and Turkish human rights organizations and activists, announced that it would file an official lawsuit against Tango Ozcan, the mayor of the Turkish “Bolu”, who is known for his racist statements and stances, especially towards refugees in the city of “Bolu”.
The assembly said in a statement: The lawsuit will be submitted according to the form of the personal complaint, which will be submitted by about 24 Turkish lawyers and academics.
He added that the idea will also be applied in “Tekirdağ”, “Izmir” and “Ankara”, noting that the number of applicants is expected to reach 70 people, representing a supportive group for Syrian refugee issues.
The assembly explained that this group will be stable and will soon file a lawsuit against Umit Ozdag, the head of the Zefer party, who had previously directed inflammatory speeches against the Syrian refugees and demanded their expulsion.
