Bolu Mayor Özcan: “The wedding fee of foreign nationals will be 100 thousand TL”

“If one or both of the applicants are foreign nationals, the wedding fee will be 100 thousand Turkish liras,” said Bolu Mayor Tango Ozkan.

Bolu Mayor of CHP, Tanju Özcan, announced the new fee schedule for official weddings to be held in the municipality at his press conference.

Stating that they will receive a normal marriage fee tariff from Turkish couples who have made their first marriage, Özcan said, “If the first marriage of both of the parties to get married, their marriage will be cheap. If one of the parties has a second marriage, we will receive a wedding fee of 5 thousand TL. In the event that one of the parties has a third marriage, we will receive 50 thousand TL as the wedding fee. If one or both parties are foreign nationals, the marriage fee will be 100 thousand TL.

“WE WANT THEM NOT TO SETTLE IN BOLU” This is how the Mayor of Bolu justified his decision, which many described as racist, against the city’s foreign residents.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) produced the foreign population map of Turkey. There are 816 thousand 410 foreign nationals who have obtained a residence permit or work permit in Turkey. There are 4,551 foreign nationals in Bolu.
