Demands from the Opposition to Prevent Syrians with Turkish Citizenship from Voting in the Elections

With the approach of the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for June next year, allegations are increasing about the influence of naturalized Syrians.
Opponents of the Syrian presence resorted to an attempt to prevent officially naturalized Syrians from voting in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

Some tweeters also launched a hashtag rejecting the participation of naturalized Syrians in the upcoming elections and calling on the government to deprive them of this right.
The hashtag bears the title: “#Suriyelilieroykullanmasin, which means that Syrians should not use the right to vote.

The hashtag was met with interaction by supporters of the opposition parties and those who do not support the Syrian presence.

However, such people ignore the fact that Syrians are not entitled to vote in the elections, even in any way, except for those who have obtained citizenship.
These anti-campaigns come with the growing incidence of racism by some young Turkish men and opposition parties that use Syrians as an electoral card.
The head of the CHP, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, had previously announced his intention to establish relations with the Syrian regime and to return the Syrians as soon as he assumed power.
A number of opposition party heads also vowed to return the Syrian refugees and resolve their issue with the Assad regime. Over the past few months, the head of the opposition Zefar Party, Umit Ozdag, has led several campaigns and calls to expel the Syrians.
Ozdag tried to provoke Turkish officials and politicians with his provocative statements that did not only target Syrians. Over the course of a few months, Özdag fabricated dozens of lies and allegations about Syrians and their alleged danger in Turkey.
