Fire Burns 93 Tents In Syrian Refugee Camp In Lebanon

BY| aNews

A fire broke out on Wednesday in a Syrian refugee camp in the Lebanese town of Arsal, near the Syrian-Lebanese border.

The blaze torched 93 tents out of 200 in al-Wifaq al-Omani camp, leaving 100 Syrian families without shelter, the Lebanese state-run National News Agency reported.

After the incident, the Civil Defense personnel deployed in the camp. The Civil Defense Directorate said that their teams put out the fire about three hours after the incident, but the fire had already burnt 93 tents.

No casualties have been reported among the refugees, but many of their belongings, including their identification papers, were destroyed, the state agency said.

It is expected that the authorities responsible for the camp would make an accurate estimate to the damage, but it was not clear whether the losses would be compensated.

Lebanon hosts around 1.5 million Syrian refugees.

The security forces said that they began to investigate the incident to identify the cause of the fire.
