The director of communication of the Turkish presidency calls on Greece to “show state seriousness”

The communication director of the Turkish presidency, Fahrettin Altun, called on our country to stop the “cruel treatment” of refugees, according to the Turkish Anadolu Agency.

“We call on Greece to abandon as soon as possible the cruel treatment of refugees, to stop the baseless and false accusations against Turkey and show state seriousness,” the official tweeted.

He writes about a “Greek fake news machine” that “is back in action”.

“By confusing Greece with Turkey, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum with the posts of false, incorrect contents tried to show our country as suspect”, he notes.

The official’s comments come a day after the Greek Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Notis Mitarakis blamed Turkey for the shocking images of the 92 naked refugees at the Greek-Turkish border in Evros: “Turkey’s behavior towards 92 migrants whom we rescued at the border is a shame for civilization,” he said in a post.

“With these futile and ridiculous efforts, Greece has once again shown to the whole world that it does not respect the dignity of refugees by publishing photos of these oppressed people it has deported after confiscating their personal belongings,” Altoun said.

“The Greek authorities cooperating with Frontexthey must be held accountable for the babies who drowned in the Aegean, the people they stripped, beat with belts and left to die of the cold in the Evros,” he added.

Earlier today through the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Ismail Katakli, Turkey denied any involvement regarding the issue of the 92 irregular migrants who were spotted, naked, on the banks of the river Evros.

“Since you could not find a single case of human rights violations by Turkey, you are just trying to paint the picture of your own cruelty as if Turkey did it,” he tweeted.
