The leader of the opposition Zefar Party, Umit Ozdag, shared a shocking tweet on his official Twitter page, in which he claimed that the number of Syrians obtaining Turkish citizenship has approached one and a half million.

Ozdag claimed that the number of Syrians who obtained Turkish citizenship as of July 2022 is one million and 476 thousand Syrians, and Turkish citizenship has been granted to other foreign nationalities with a number of 256.827 foreigners.

He also claimed that Turkish citizenship is granted daily to “70” Syrian families in Istanbul alone, knowing that the official statistics issued by the Ministry of Interior confirm that the number of Syrians who obtained Turkish citizenship throughout Turkey is only 200 thousand and 950 Syrians, of whom only 120 thousand. They can vote in the elections.

Umit Ozdag continues to spread hate speech and incitement against refugees, vowing to expel them from Turkey if he comes to power. This speech resulted in violence that claimed the lives of dozens of refugees, especially Syrians and Afghans in the first place, by being beaten and stabbed to death.
