Combating Racism in Turkey.. a New Service via an Electronic Link
With the increasing frequency of racist attacks against refugees, especially Syrians, after the escalation of hate speech due to the incitement of some opposition parties, the Turkish government has allocated an electronic platform that allows refugees to submit complaints in case they are exposed to racism in Turkey.
According to the Turkish Human Rights and Equality Authority “TİHEK”, its online platform has been activated, which allows foreigners or refugees to file an official complaint in the event of any racist behavior by a government employee or department.
How do you protect yourself from racism?
According to the commission, every person or legal entity who claims to have suffered a violation of discrimination and detention in prisons, detention centers and deportation centers can submit a complaint to the platform, and people who have been deprived of their liberty in their places of residence or who have been detained can submit a complaint to it.
For requests to prohibit discrimination to be within the scope of Law No. 6701, in accordance with Article 3 of the Law, the complaint must be based on at least one of the following grounds: gender, race, color, language, religion, belief, sect, philosophical and political opinion , in addition to origin, wealth, birth, marital status, health status, disability, and age.
Before submitting an application to the Authority, the concerned parties must request the correction of the practice that they claim is in violation of the law, and in the event that such requests are rejected or no response within thirty days, a request may be submitted to the Authority.
